Any way to get a discount with BT ?

Hi all

My contract runs out at the end of this month and I'm thinking of going to 02 instead.

Will BT give me any reductions or discounts if I tell them I'm migrating to 02 ?

Or will it be a dead loss ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. If you have broadband as well, phone and enquire when your contract's up and waffle about MAC code, looking for cheaper, have seen Talk Talk etc.

You should then get half price broadband if you agree to a new 12 month contract and, if you say you'll think about it and call back, you'll probably get put on hold and then an offer of £3/month off your line rental too.

Well, I did last year and again last week.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Thanks, Heinz.

Thing is, I don't have BB with BT. Do you think they'd reduce the line rental instead ?

Won't hurt to try. The £3/month (paid as a £36 up-front lump sum) is fairly common. Ask for details of your contract end date and mention Primus's £8.99 line rental and see what they offer.

Doesn't always work with just phone rental package -tried it on b4 my W/E & evenings contract rollover date this week but they wouldn't offer me anything extra !
EDIT : -Mind you, she could probably see that my account was already well in credit because my call costs have been decimated by use of 18185 !!!

You were right, Heinz; they offered me a one-off credit of £36 (in other words, line rental was reduced from £12.79 to £9.79).

I forgot to mention Primus' deal, but to be honest, I was quite happy with the discounted line rental.

Actually, after I put the phone down, I forgot to mention one add-on that I've got ('call barring') - it costs £2.59 a month but 02 are doing it for £1.50. That's a difference of about £13 a year; not a lot but I've slightly kicked myself for not mentioning that.

Do you think it's too late to ring back and tell them ? - not sure if they'll make any more adjustments since they've already done with that £36 credit.

BTW, the CS agent asked me how much I was paying for BB on 02; said it was £10 a month on the 'up to 20 meg' package.

She then politely ended the call - maybe she thought there was no way she could beat that :D
