I have a netbook which most of the time woks OK while surfing but then suddenly I start getting messages "Internet explorer cannot display web page"...No matter what I try...booting netbook...powering off BT wireless router it continues to give me this message....While Im getting this message on the netbook the laptop that I have works OK...On both machines Im connected to the wireless network with signal quality being Excellent

Ok, from the information I can see you've already done a little fault finding (by mentioning the other PC) So it appears it's not the router.
I would check your wireless device's driver to see if there is an update.
Also have you ruled out interference and range. Those AV senders (wireless tv transmitters) can interfere, do you have anything like that.
Are you using the less reliable PC further away, or behind more walls etc? I know some of these things are simple but I have to start somewhere.0 -
Hi
Thanks for reply....Im about 3yds from the wireless router no walls or any other obstruction....no tv senders in use.....the netbook will eventually start connecting again after a short while...will check for update drivers0 -

Yeah, sounds like your best bet.
Another option is to change the channel your wireless router transmits. There's 10+ in total but some will be locked out (OfCom only allow certain frequencies) It might be worth trying some of these channels, even though your close there is a small chance something nearby might be affecting it.
Also don't rule out a virus, as these can do all sorts of weird things (I wouldn't panic just yet though)
Good luck0 -
Thanks for reply...I suspect that it maybe something to do with the channel as when the netbook starts failing to connect I do a view of wireless networks and there are always a couple that it picks up that I dont know what they are obviously neighbours...How do I change the channel please?Yeah, sounds like your best bet.

I'd need to know your router first. You would have to log in to your router (probably by entering 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your browser) and its usually in the same menu where you set your SSID name/password or at least thereabouts. You'll see maybe a dropdown with default or auto and then hopefully an option to change the channel manually. Just to clarify though, your neighbours wireless aren't necessarily on the same channel as you, it doesn't work like that as such. the routers have their own ways of seperating signals (I think) changing the channel is more for avoiding interference from a completely different device like the AV sender I mentioned, I know you don't have one but all sorts of electrical kit give off EM interference. It's still only a long shot mind
On another note what are you using to manage your wireless adapter?
Are you using windows own manager or the software one. if its a little known make/model I find they can be quite buggy sometimes and Windows can be more stable (or in some cases vice-versa)
Finally have you set your PC's to have static IP addresses? If so there might be a conflict if you've given them both the same address eg 192.168.0.2 is a common address for the first pc and 192.168.0.3 would be the next (192.168.0.1 is USUALLY for the router itself) if however you (or someone else) has set a static address this could be the cause (you'd likely only notice this if both PC's were on at the same time though.)
Apologies if this is obvious to you but I'm just going through all of the scenarios. Likewise if this is going over your head, let me know and I'll walk through it with you0 -
BT wifi router? It'll be on Channel 11 with virtually every other router sold in the UK.
Change the channel. I had a customer who couldn't connect with his router even though he was 10ft away from it. After doing a scan with InSSIDer , it turned out the entire village was running on Channel 11. Changed channel, job sorted.0 -

If OP does have a BT wifi router I suggest you ask Hammyman for a walkthrough in respects to that as I've not tinkered with one of those yet.0
