Thunderbugs invading my garden!

I don't even know if thunderbugs is the right name for them, that's just how I've always known them.

Anyway about this time of year is when my garden is covered in them. Last year it got so bad we couldn't go in the garden, there were literally thousands of them.

Does anyway know to get rid of them? Or at the very least reduce the numbers?

They are driving me nuts already!!

That's what they used to call flying ants where I grew up. If that's what you mean, they'll all be gone in a day or two. Nothing you can do but stay in doors and wait for them to go.

Nah these are way too small to be flying ants.

I've just googled it and they are sometimes called thunder flies or Thrips

I did think it was a bit early for flying ants. Don't know about thrips, but hope you get some peace from them soon!

Thunder bugs are commonly known as Thrips.

The only way to get rid of them is to spray your entire garden and surfaces with insecticide.

Garlic plants are known to act as a deterrent, gardeners who are plagued with them commonly plant garlic around their greenhouses to deter them.

They are nasty little creatures, they destroy plants in the garden and they get inside picture frames and TFT monitors as well, you can get little spots over your screen where they have managed to get inside.
  • i really feel for you. we have so many of these things I cant stand it! i moved to nottinghamshire last year with partners job and to be honest i think we will have to move away. i have no idea how people cope here, not being able to go outside, not being able to put your washing out, little *******'s getting in photo frames etc. A couple would be fine, but i was outside the other day for about 5 mins and when i shook my hair over te sink about 70 fell out - no exaggeration... There are currently hundreds on my windows.

Please please please could anyone tell me if there is anywhere here that doesnt get them? It took us two years to move and i really am losing the plot here :(
