Plaster sealer or just a mist coat?

Quick update; it worked a treat, thanks all for your advice! I did a mist coat all over then two coats of colour, and returned my plaster sealer to B&Q for a refund.
Gingerninja72, I mist coated my study ceiling with a 70/30 paint and water mix and it worked really well and not too much dripping.
