I have got a 51 plate vauxhall corsa that had intermittent problems for about 6mths with random stalling and loss of power for a few seconds. The engine management light came on and then the car stalled at traffic lights. I had the car towed to where it is in cardiff now. A mechanic came out and plugged it into the computer and diagnosed camshaft sensor and charged £60 to replace it, This did nothing, He then spent 3 hours trying to find out why the car wouldnt start and eventually diagnosed a broken timing chain. (he charged me £100 extra for diagnosing it!) The car has a few months tax and mot and im not sure what to do with it (it has done about 110k miles). I live in swansea and the car is stuck in cardiff. The car is only worth between 500-1000 so do you think it is worth getting the job done on fixing the timing chain or do you think it is better to try and sell the car to a garage for a couple of hundered so they can fix it and sell it on for profit or do you think i should scrap it?

snapped timing chain is rare, But can cause serious damage to the engine when it breaks.

The pistons move up the bore & hit the valves that are open. Damaged pistons, Valves and heads are typical.

    Get a 2nd opinion though.

    hmm dodgy diagnostics
get a second opinion from someone who knows what their doing
if the chain has snapped/slipped your best bet is chuck it on ebay as spares or repair

Chains fail on them due to oil pump failing.
