Replacing asbestos Roof

Do not do any work or be in the area of work being done without wearing the appropriate respirator/disposable overalls. Your contractor should be fully trained and have the necessary certifications. Even if it is cement based, there is no point in taking un-necessary risks. Maybe you should go away for a week?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

My roofer a few years ago just tossed the slates into a skip below. He said the skip cost went up from the then normal price of £110 to £400 tho the only extra he could see was a large black liner, with which he covered the skip at night. He was the only chap on the job, like a monkey, brilliant , but iffy on the Heath and Safety front.
Make sure your roofer puts out safety signs, and places the tiles into the skip gently. But will cost extra of course as will an extra man. Moveable scaffolding on wheels are legal (so he said).0 -

Two questions.
1 You are worried about your 'new' house. what do you mean by new, new to you or new build? If a new/newish build they will not be asbestos.
2 Why are you worried? Asbestos slate tiles left in place are perfectly safe. Dont be fooled into the the misinformed opinion of some that all asbestos must be removed. That is definatly not the case.
1. New to us, but not new. 1960s.
2. Worried in case it is difficult to get someone to work on the roof - the tiles have moss on them and could do with a good scrape.0 -
I am going ahead with getting my Asbestos roof tiles replaced and was hoping for some advice on what to make sure the contractor is doing.
I don't want any fibers passed into the house so was thinking of getting them to lay polythene sheets and duct tape them down and get wet mops to mops up any debris afterwards.
Thanks for any advice.

I'd leave them alone if I were you. I've had moss on my roof for years and I just ignore it, it's not doing any harm. However, someone walking over the roof could crack or move the tiles and cause all sorts of problems.0 -
It doesn't look very nice, and also I'm worried that it retains water up there.
I do see what you mean thought that walking on it and probably even generally doing anything with it could cause some movement of the tiles and possibly leaks!0
