Is being overweight or obese a blessing when in debt?

i spend £30 a week at my local market...get all my fruit/veg/meat/snacks/treats with that for a family of 4...you can't go wrong with it

good luck with the weight loss, i'm doing that too
Hoping to of finally learned my lesson...slowly but surely0 -
I've been off the boards for a while, but saw this and thought it worth adding my experience.
At the time of my LBM I was 3 stone overweight.
However, once I'd got my finances under control I began to feel more in control of my life in general - and then the comfort eating dropped, and I found I could begin and stick at exercising because I was less depressed. Exercise in itself helps my mental state so it's a virtuous circle - I'm now half a stone overweight and much much happier.
I got into debt and overweight for the same reasons - depression, though I didn't realise I was depressed at the time.
So - I think the positive mental state that true DFWs develop feeds into all aspects of our lives - long before the actual debt's gone (just look at my sig!)Long-haul Supporters DFW 120

Great post. This makes a lot of sense to me. The days I struggle with my eating are often the same days where I feel most depressed and when I spend to try and feel better. These things are definitely linked.
Skint but happy with my lovely family

I think there's a thread about OS (old style) dieting on the OS board. The whole OS crew are all about thrift, so everythig they do is penny pinching- they're great haha! Well... less great now... seems a lot of them are getting littler by the week!I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

my way of losing (and now maintaining) weight was to halve my portions (as well as generally trying to make healthier choices) - this of course in turn has halved my food bill.
things like bread and cereal now last ages! also, i've now got used to those smaller portions and my old portions now seem 'massive' to me!
porridge is cheap, filling and nice for b/fast, plus you can water down the milk to make it cheaper and healthier again - i have to have a spoon of golden syrup in mine tho;).
sandwiches for lunch - i use only one piece of bread ie. i make half a sandwich and put less protein in but fill it to bursting with salad. i then have fruit and yoghurt - whatever is on offer/reduced. if i need to have crisps i just have a few out of a normal sized packet (it lasts for days lol).
i do have to have a small chocolate item after my evening meal, but look out for the best value calorie wise.
i regularly visit the supermarket after work to pick up reduced items such as cold meats, breads etc that can all be frozen.0 -
I'm going to go through the next month without spending a penny on food apart from, bread, milk and the occasional bit of fruit and veg.
Wish me luck. :-) I have enough food in the house to last a while so it's gonna be bean casseroles, curries with rice, pasta and tomato for a while. :-)
Lots of tea and coffee. The big treat is jam on toast. :-)
If I had more money I'd be buying loads of veg (which isn't that expensive on the whole) but for next month it will be cheaper to just take multivitamins and make the above dishes etc.0
