I can see how it would be depressing, as there's nothing worse than looking in the mirror each day and having a negative view about the way you look. I know too well, it's all too easy to look in the mirror get depressed and go on a chocolate fest.
However, it has got me thinking a little. If I go on a diet now, I should be able to save more money. I could almost see those fat reserves as having economic value.
What do you think? As long as I ensure I have the right vitimins and minerals I could cut my food bill in half.
Thing is I know one thing which used to eat up my money and that was convenience food. It's something you tend to avoid when you diet.

That's one way to look at it. As long as what you do cut down/eat is in healthy requirements, then yeah, it's a positive angle to take.
Pasta meals etc are healthy and very cheap! We mainly now buy little in convienance foods, and don't really buy snacks- barring the odd few times I find them reduced.0 -
Your title made me smile, had to come and read

I do think you have a good point, i'm thinking when i've got into my stride with the debt busting, I will look at losing weight then. Way too much of my grocery budget is being taken up with spending on rubbish.0 -
Its a good idea in theory - but don't take it to extremes like deciding to only eat once a day or something. But certainly I think home prepared healthy meals can be done very cheaply.
The old style board will have loads of tips on getting the most food/nutrition for your money. Things like in season fruit & veg can be really cheap. And if you have somewhere you can do pick your own strawberries thats exercise whilst you pick them as well as healthy to eat

:rotfl:The only thing is that after a wee while you'll need a new wardrobe...worth the expense though!"I believe that everything happens for a reason. Im over weight and that gives me low self estem. I have created a huge chunk of my debt by spending money on clothes, my hair, nails etc to myself feel good.
I think if I was slim and confident I prob would not be in half the debt I am in....
But I joined slimming world a week ago (lost 3.5lbs in my first week woo hoo) and I have noticed that as I have not been buying snacks etc and I keep telling my self only when I lose a few stone can I buy a new outfit, my bank balance looks pretty good this month.....
I’m back and more determined than ever!!!!!0 -
Yeah, but you can save say £1 for every 1lb you lose, and use that to get clothes (buy from charity shops and take the ones you don't fit into there as well....good karma)** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I tend to disagree. I think it gets people into the habit of 'cooking', which often makes things cheaper. :-P
Chop up some carrots and a load of potatoes, costs a couple of pennies. Potatoes are dirt cheap. You can pick up about 5kg of spuds for £2 washed, maybe even less. If you fancy a cheecky treat, shallow fry potatoes in cheap oil. Very tasty and nice mixed with some carrots. Otherwise maybe put the potatoes in a casserole, again very cheap.
Also buy a load of cucumbers and tomatoes and make some tasty sandwiches, if you buy them from the right places and use some cheap, maybe reduced bread, you're laughing.0 -
Yes but fried potatoes aren't going to help you lose weight...
Skint but happy with my lovely family
