Hi all,
I had a letter from the baliff in my brother name ( we same surname but 1st name diffrent) He never live with me (since i brought my flat) but i open it as wondering why he was using my address. I phoned the bailiff and they said he dosnt live here and how you get the idea he was living with me. He said they did some searching which i reply well you didnt do it properly he never live here. He said well we will be making a visit monday to collect the money or remove stuff from home if he dosnt pay up as he (bailiff) say he live here. Well i own my property and i can prove that me and my G/F live in this one bedroom flat. What can i do... Also they address my brother had with the debt company is his old address and that the bailiff says that they did some seaches and my name pop up so they reckon he live with me cos my old address is the same as my brother.

Are you sure these are Bailifs or just Debt collectors
If they are bailifs just show them proof of your indentity, and that you are the tennant/homeowner
If they are Debt collectors just ask them to leave (if they turn up)PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT NERD #869

You need to get your Brother to sort it out, it's his problem. He needs to call them and give up his proper address.0

if they come round call the police. simples.0

right just found out they are actually debt collcoters not bailiff and the debt is on 200 quid. so can i tell them to get lost when they come round... also told my brother he said he not doing anything about it and also he not at a fixed address he stay at mothers or friends how from time to time...0

So you're gonna keep getting hassle for your brothers debt?
Give them his current address, let him deal with it. I know he's your bother and all, but he needs to take responsibility of it and not leave it up to you.
I'd be utterly ashamed of myself if other family members got hassle for my debts.0 -
Why should you give them your brother's address? Better you ask them to leave and if they won't leave, tell them you will calll the Police. Once they see you are serious, they will leave well alone. Yes, it's a nuisance, but he's your brother. Interesting they found you if you have a common surname.0

Pee i know there must be loads people with the surname but they prob found evidence that when i was younger we live in same house with mother... didnt even know they can do that. Gorden he at no fixed address so cant tell them really... anyway i got my brother to phone them and he could give him address (mother will go mad if he say he live there even know she knows about this cos i told her) and other than that he no fixed address so i let the debt people come round prove i live there and own the property and then see what happens.
thabks anyway guys0 -
Cool, well these doorstep collectors have no power anyway. Show them you're not who they're after and suggest that if they carry on pestering you for someone else's debt you'll report them to the Financial Ombudsman and Trading Standards.
I'm wishing I could be a fly on your wall when the collector turns up though lol0
