Disability shower

Hi

We have a disability shower and surround in the bathroom of a property I intend to rent out. There is also a separate bath.

The shower is a good Mira shower - no problem. But the surround is a kind of gate system (I hope people understand what I mean by this) which allows the user easy access. The shower is a rectangle long shape so good for space but an estate agent said that gate/disabled associations might put people off.

a) any opinions - would this stop you from renting a big old spacious Victorian property with garden in a nice road in an happening area of London* (I know this is difficult without supplying a picture but the tray and tiles etc are nice and clean etc).

b) is it possible (or does anyone have any experience of this) to replace the gate system thing with a tall glass end panel?

Any advice greatly appreciated
SB

*forgive my description - I have been spending too much time around EAs and viewing too many websites

it wouldn't put me off personally but unfortunately i think some people might be put off because people trying to sell adapted houses often run into prejudices of this sort.
but you might try listing it with your local 'disabiled persons housing service' who hold details of properties suitable for people looking for adapted properties.

    Nice post.
I have just bought a property with the same shower area also as a stair lift and lift to the exterior.
Is there a market for the lift outside the property and the star lift?
The lift to the ouside is only 5 months old and the star lift about 12 months old bathroom adapted about 12 months ago.
Any one know who to get in touch with as to regards posssible sale or removal of equipment?

    sorry for jumping your post.
  • It does seem such a waste of resources ripping out disability equipment. Is there any reason why you shouldn't advertise the property as suitable for the disabled and try to take advantage of the special shower.

  • Thanks for comments.
Apart from the bathroom the property is not disabled friendly, too many stairs for a start. I think apart from becoming a new avid fan of plumbworld - I will get my builder to give me an idea of what can be done in the short term.
Cargo - I would imagine that there are some disabled organisations in your area that maybe able to reuse the equipment or point you in the right direction - especially if only 5 months old.
