Hello,
I've just graduated from university after 5 years (got my final results through last Friday) and have worked throughout my degree doing bar-work, student ambassador work etc.
I've been applying for a job for when I finish for about a year now and even got accepted for one, until they pulled the job 4 weeks after offering it to me...
I had started the motions to claim for some Job Seeker's Allowance last Friday and I had my initial application interviews yesterday. The advisor told me that as I'm between 18 and 24 I have to go to a "Helping You Back To Work" group meeting tomorrow afternoon.
I asked the advisor about this and he said it was because I'm a "Young Person" I have to attend, don't think he really knew what it was himself...
I've searched google and the direct gov website for more information about what goes on in these meetings and haven't found anything... So I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these and what I'm to expect?
Thanks
Steve

You should be put onto "New Deal for Young People" and this is just a taster of what (or what not) help you can expect to receive
"The first stage of New Deal for
young people
The first stage of New Deal for young
people is called ‘gateway’. It lasts for up to
16 weeks. At this stage you will meet your
personal adviser every week so that they
can find out what you can do, what sort of
work you want, and how you can get it.
We will help you:
• work out the steps you can take towards
getting a job, and set these out in your
own action plan
• work out what jobs you could apply for
• fill in application forms and write a CV
• get advice on careers
• find other support if you need it, and
• pay for some of your costs, such as bus
fares or train fares."
Sorry, could not post the main link as I've just registered and am forbidden to post comments with links which is sad but never the less, just past the below information into google and hit search

You won't be put onto New Deal if you have just started your claim! I am over 24 but I went to something similar after recently starting my claim. I think it was only older people on mine so I assume the 18-24 yo's have one customised for their age group. It was really just a presentation by the jobcentre staff and we just sat and listened. It was quite well done, to be fair.0
