Ipod wont reest to Factory settings

Am trying to restore my ipod to factory settings as it wont sync anything in I-Tunes.
I tried various things to finally get my ipod in recognised in the I-tunes panel but have got stuck with a mesage of ;
"ipod "my name" could not be synced.The required folder could not be found.Error (-48) "
Also , got to the stage in I-tunes where I tried to do a full restore but got the message ;
"Unable to restore Ipod.Unknown error occured (1415) "
Went onto the apple site to look up Error 1415 and tried different USB port and restarting.Have got the latest version of I-Tunes (9.2) I believe.
My wifes Ipod shuffle is recognised and is having no problem syncing etc
Does anybody know if there is a way or restoring my ipod or getting it working again ?
Any comments greatfully received

Thanks

    You are not saying which ipod i.e. classic, touch, nano, shuffle, what generation it is, what operating system you are using on both the ipod and PC. A little basic information would assist before anyone could help you. but one thing if you have itunes 9.2 and you are using a jailbroken touch, then you may have problems.

    Think it's the menu and middle button?

    Hold down for a few seconds.

    How to unfreeze or reset an iPod Classic

    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Now press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, which may take about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

    Notes:
    • If you are having problems resetting the iPod, go ahead and set it on a flat surface. Then make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also be sure that you are pressing the Menu button towards the outside of the click wheel, not near the center.
    • If the above mentioned steps do not work, then you can try connecting your iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect the iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn’t set to go to sleep.

    First and foremost, make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes and device firmware. If you do not, you want to upgrade at least to the latest version of iTunes. You can always update the firmware after the restore, and depending on the issue with your device, you may not be able to properly update the firmware before the restore. Connect your iPod, and then select its main screen listed under Devices in the left panel. This will give you all the data on your iPod.

    From this screen, you will see an Upgrade button and a Restore button. You want to click the Restore button, it will then pop up and ask you if you want to back up your iPod first.

    This once again depends on the issue; if you think something on the iPod is causing the problem, do not back up your data, because once you reload it back onto the device, you may experience the same problem. If you are just restoring for the heck of it, feel free to backup the device as you see fit. Follow the prompts and within a few minutes, it will be as if your iPod is brand new.

    I think the problem lies with itunes 9.2 can you find a pc with an older version?

    Got my ipod to finally reset to factory settings the other day :j
    Synced everything in my i-tunes library no problem.Synced the 50 odd folders (approx. 1500 pictures) of pictures from my photo onto my ipod but when I come to view the folder , its on my ipod but the picture is either blank or fuzzy ( like a bad TV reception)
    Re-synced it yesterday with the same results .
    Everything else is fine and working ok but for this

    Any ideas ?
    Thanks
