I never liked that site devildog - they didnt seem to take into account all the details of each policy so I found it misleading. Same with a lot of the big comparison sites they put forward a best buy of something like Tescos which we all know isnt a for life policy.0

Fair comment, I just thought it was a good initial starting point.
Although in fairness they do not recommend a policy or give prices for them, it is just a side by side basic comparison.
Obviously as many have said, you have to read all the small print and then decide what factors are the most important ones to consider with regards to your requirements.0 -
Hi more than have just rang me up as I made an enquiry and they said their cover is life long? Is this true as on the internet it says it is per condition in total. I really need to get some insurance sooner rather than later but reaqlly have no idea who to go for. I noticed more than dont cover your dog if it doesnt live at my address, which mine doesnt as she lives with my fiances mum but we see her everyday as she is only 5 miles away, will this be the same for every insurer?
Thank You:jHas saved so much money since joining this forum, thanks to all you kind people out there :j0 -
It sounds very much like you want someone to say to you insure with ..................(whoever) so that you don't have to make a decision yourself
It wouldn't be reasonable for anyone to do this because different policies suit different people for different reasons.
You have a collie x lab, is it a puppy or an older dog?
If a youngster you need to look at a policy that covers a condition for life.
If an older dog this not so important and you may wish to have coverage for the likes of cremation costs.
Do some research and see what particular illness' can affect collies/labs, then research(or ask at vets) what would be a reasonable amount to insure for, to cover these particular illness'
Is it a good natured dog or is it more unpredictable-if so you need to be looking at good liability coverage.
As it is a cross, you more than likely paid little for it so if it was to die you do not need a policy that pays out a lot for loss of life(they would want to see proof of initial money paid out)
Go through the policies with a realistic expectation of what you need, narrow down your choices(taking price into consideration) and go for it!!0 -
AXA policy arrived in post.
Dog isn't covered for the first 14 days.
I have 14 days in which to cancel, but will be charged for the cover received in that period.:rotfl:0 -
I'm with NFU i've not made a claim yet to test them out but the premium has been about the same for the last 3years as you get some sort of discount when you renew. They don't have an online quote thingy, but OH was very impressed with the service when he called them. I'd prefer to have higher vets fees cover than our 4k policy but just couldn't afford to up the monthly premiums for 2 dogs this year. Its quite a big decision when you realise that you can end up tied to that choice.
Im with NFU and i have found that they pay out £2000 per condition per year. Now last year i know they slightly changed their policy, andi think that they only gave life cover to dogs who where pedigree, but as i have been with them for years they said i should still get the life insurance.0 -

I think NFU is another one with several different policies on the go now. Thanks for pointing that out Buddy. They seem to have a basic, only covered for 12 months policy now with a limit of £2k. Oh dear, looks like another one we need to check out again0
