Hello

I have bought Kaspersky internet security 2010 for my pc but when i went to install it it through up a message saying "microsoft windows xp service pack 2 or higher is required to install the application"

What is service pack 2
I have had the microsoft applications (Word excel etc) install since around 2004/5 i no longer have the disk.

I need to get some security on my pc (I have mcafee firewall installed somehow).

Can anyone advise me what to do.

just click windows update on the start menu then accept all the update that come up
  • Have updated (or at least in the process of doing it) to SP2 but when I try to install Norton 360 it is telling me that I need to ununstall McAfee Firewall. when I do this through the start menu Mcafee etc and uninstall it is saying that it can't find install.log.
I have done a search of the c drive and neither can I. any advice how I get norton security installed please.
  • Are you installing Kaspersky or Norton 360?
  • I have both now and can't install either

You should have installed service pack 2 years ago (it came out around 6 years ago). Support for XP SP2 ends in a few days, so i'd upgrade straight to SP3 (which came out a few years ago): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&displaylang=en

Your computer is at risk especially since you don't have SP2 installed which included a lot of security updates

Use the mcafee removal tool to get rid of the mcafee firewall before installing KIS 2010: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

It will probably be worth you running windows update as well (Start > all programs > windows update i think) to get all the latest hotfixes and security patches installed

Perhaps look back in your 3 month old thread two posts before yours there is a link to remove Mcafee there.

You may be better off installing Kaspersky rather than Norton - it's a much better product. Either way, you need to de-install your current security software as you can't have 2 running at the same time. Use the link for the removal tool that Gaming boy gave you.
