I had a similar problem on my credit report, it lists 30 addresses. Many of them are the same address but in a different format, eg my Dad's house has a name but is also sometimes referred to with a number and street name (despite the fact that it was built about 100 years before the next oldest house on the street). It's listed on my report several times, some times with the name, some times with the number and street and sometimes with both, sometimes with the house name spelt incorrectly.

Other problems arise with addresses from while i was at uni, in my first year i moved between about three different rooms in halls, these are all listed despite two of them actually being in the same building, all post went to a central area where it was sorted by name to be picked up so the room number and hall i was living in on campus didn't make a difference to post. In my second year at uni i was living in the flat below a town house, again this address is listed as just the number and street, sometimes with the letter a after the number, sometimes with basement flat as the first line, sometimes with basement flat as the second line. There are also some addresses which are completely incorrect and i haven't lived there. Some entries are repeated with only the name of the source differing. Some of the entries are made by companies i haven't had any dealings with. One entry lists the same address but misses the house number off one of the addresses. A few of them will drop off my report in the next six months or so if the drop off after 8 years as other people have mentioned. Is it worth me writing to Experian to ask for some of them to be removed?
  • Hi Pipsi,

If you're willing to write several letters, I'd say it's worth a try. Especially if you have had no financial link to any addresses on the report. To save time, it may even be worth writing to the companies who informed the CRA of the data as well as the CRA itself.

As you can see, I'm no expert on what the CRAs and other agencies should be doing, but information on you is incorrect then something HAS to be done.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi FraudBuster,

Do you think I may have been subject to fraud then? I have had a read up on NHUNTER online and I must say it does leave me somewhat baffled!

Today I have looked at my credit report for the first time with the same company and I too was astonished to see how many addresses are on there. However, when I went through them in detail, each one was infact duplicated. But, when you look in detail each one is linked from AND linked to i.e.
1 Hight Street link to 99 High Road and then 99 High Road Linked from 1 High St.

Not sure if this is meant to be the case, but, it may explain why yours are duplicated?

On another note, does anyone know how long the addresses last for as shown on here, as I have some linked from 2002 and they are still on there?

    Thanks
  • Hi Jonno,

Linked addresses remain on file for 8 years with Credit Expert. I understand what you mean about 1 address link to another and back again, however many of THESE links are duplicated on my file! It is so frustrating to see it and have no help from Credit Expert! Have just found their correction notices on my report, though!

But if the companies who got my info wrong tell CE to keep the rubbish they have recorded, I then have to challenge them on it! How stupid! I didn't live at some of these places - how do I prove that?! I only want to be able to get a mortgage in 3-4 years. I'd do it sooner, like next year or early the year after, as the flat I live in is extremely unsuitable for my kids. I don't want credit cards to spend money that's not mine on. I don't want overdrafts to pay for expensive holidays. I do not wish to live beyond my means, just to make a better future for my kids. I am hellbent on achieving it but I feel I'm fighting a one-woman battle with corporate fat cats with their !!!!s on their heads! :(

  • Well CE wrote back and have removed 1 company's incorrect addresses (which totalled 4 entries saying the same thing!) so now I'm down to 67 links! lol. Still awaiting responses from the other 1 or 2.

Having looked at the dates in great detail, and adding on 8 years from the date each was added, I can see that a HUGE majority of the addresses will be gone by 2013 with the rest gone by the end of that year. This will leave 6 addresses, each repeated 4 times. But will look much better and I'll be happy to apply for a mortgage in 2013 as planned (if I can challenge the incorrect defaults on my report next!)

MASSIVE load of stress off my mind. Thanks for your guidance peeps! :D

Thanks for starting this thread :)

I have 120  linked addresses on my experian credit report (only 3 on my equifax, including my current address) and have gone through them all with a fine tooth comb today...

Of the 20 (different lenders) which seem ok, going back to 2004, each one is duplicated at least 4 and in some cases 6 times!!! I've copied your wording and fired off an email to Credit Expert.

Fingers crossed I'll get a suitable response.

Let me explain. We have to show you all the data we hold, even if it's repeated several times. Perhaps we don't explain this very well on the report. Having duplicate address links, even if there is some difference in the formatting, is not a problem and will not affect credit scores. However, if any of the addresses are incorrect you should ask us to query them for you and we will investigate with the organisation that created the link.

The links are created by credit accounts moving between addresses or by credit checks taking place involving two or more addresses. Considering Experian's market share regarding lenders carrying out credit checks it should be no surprise that Experian reports contact many more links than the other agencies.
