If you're only 'earning' enough for the occasional carry out.....surely you are better off using your time (not to mention keeping your savings secure) to actually look for work? Maybe that's a silly idea......but you are after all on 'JOB SEEKERS' allowance right?0

The capital limits are relevant as you describe, however the money may be classed as income as I noted above.
It is a complex area, and AFAIK very few cases are found to fall under the career gambling definition.
Go and check the case law, then come back and admit you were wrong!
