No. Budgeting loans are not available to buy cars and besides, even if you lied about the reason for your loan you would not get anywhere near enough to buy a decent car, much less tax and insure and MOT it.0

Would it not be better just to not take the job? You obviously cant afford a car so there is no way you can do the job. So I would tell the truth to the employer that you dont have a car nor can you afford one so you cant take up the job offer.
Why did you even apply for a job that requires a car when you dont have one??0 -

Hi I did have a car when I applied for this job months ago, its the only job offer I have had and I am desperate to get back to work but thank you for the reply0 -
Well the simple answer is to tell the employer "sorry I no longer have a car therefor cannot take up this position"0

A car is not a luxury!! It's a necessity given the way public transport is.
I am on Pension Credit and run a car. It may not be this years model, but it gets me to where I want and back again. Before I retired, a car was needed - I worked 50 miles away, and if using public transport it would have taken 2 1/2 hours each way (bus, train, bus + 2 mile walk). Knowing that I was likely to retire, I bought a 12 month old BMW knowing that it would probably outlast me!
If you have had a car before you presumably taxed and insured it, so all that you missing is the capital to buy one.
Have a strong word the next time you are in the JC+, tell them that it is unlikely that without a car there would be very little chance of a job.
And anyhow, a budget loan is repaid - it's not a grant!!0 -
No, it is a luxury - and when my husband and I have experienced unemployment it is the first thing to be sold.andyandflo wrote: »A car is not a luxury!! It's a necessity given the way public transport is.andyandflo wrote: »A car is not a luxury!! It's a necessity given the way public transport is.

But I doubt very much that the OP has continued the insurance and so will have to find the money on basic JSA. A second hand car is often sold with little or no tax - even the very cheapest is £35 - and it can be as much as £230 a year.andyandflo wrote: »Have a strong word the next time you are in the JC+, tell them that it is unlikely that without a car there would be very little chance of a job.
LOL, that'll scare them! Seriously though, all the strong words in the world won't suddenly make them give the OP the money to buy a car, tax and insure it, fill it with petrol and MOT it (again, cheap cars often have short MOT's - and hidden faults that only appear at MOT time).0 -

Many people (including myself) have learnt to manage without a car. You don't need a car.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I agree with viktory, a car is a luxury. I can't/ would not be allowed to drive, but it doesn't stop me doing anything.
OP, I mentioned it on the other thread but haven't checked for replies - have you asked your employer whether they have a pool car?Gone ... or have I?0 -
no pool car available, Im only wanting to buy a old car that will see me through a few months ,as the job I have been offered pays enough for me to be able to save for a newer car, I have seen several cars advertised under £500 complete with road tax and a full years mot, as for the insurance I would be able to pay it on a monthly basis I am 54 years old so third party insurance would be a small amount and Im sure I would manage .I agree with viktory, a car is a luxury. Is a bank loan not possible? A Budgeting Loan can be made for travelling expenses on starting work but I can't see the purchase of a car being included under that heading.0
