I thought they were petal throwers too?! When I was little I was a flowergirl for my cousin but I was just like a mini bridesmaid, I carried a small bouquet rather than scattering petals, I remember because I was disappointed that I didn't get to throw anything!

My friend is having her neice as a flowergirl next year and says that she doesn't want her to carry flowers which I find odd, surely she'd want to look like the grown-ups with flowers? She had mentioned a teddy bear but IMO that sounds ridiculously lame! But then I don't really like the idea of them carrying anything other than flowers/basket of petals/pomander!

I agree. A teddy (to me) makes it seem like the little girl wouldn't walk down the aisle with out her toy and had to be let to have it just to make her go. :rotfl:It's just not 'weddingy'. (Only imo :))

What does your flowergirl want to carry?
Has the question stemmed from her reluctance to carry something or are you wanting to find her something individual to carry?
The best laid plans never go as you want...My flowergirl who was 2 at the time discarded her flowers in favour of a packet of jelly tots and then proceeded to offer them to members of the congregation she knew whilst walking up the aisle....it goes without saying I also had one by the time I reached H2B and the vicar!
frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

    2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend

For my step-daughter we had a small bouquet made the same as mine and the bridesmaids, but as she is a bit of a tomboy and doesn't really like flowers I wired up some Go Go Crazybones (small plastic creatures she collects) and asked the florist to put these in the bouquet. She loved it (it was "so cool"), it was individual & personal to her & most people either knew her and thought it was a great touch...or didn't really notice wee blobs of colour in amongst the flowers (I went through lots of packets of GoGos to find enough doublers in the right colours...!)

It is exciting for them if it is linked to something they are into and they don't have to do it just because 'that's what you have to do at weddings' - what do they like? any hobbies or collections?

I've also seen girls with wee teddy's or dolls in outfits matching theirs (usually made up by skillful aunt or granny!) - can be nice to remember the day long after they have grown out their outfit...

The name sort of gives it away, doesn't it?

They don't have to carry flowers of course, but why on earth would you think that a flower girl wouldn't carry flowers? :undecided
