How to get money and truth from Scottish gas?

Its probably easier to give the the correct readings, let them produce a corrected bill and then call them up and say:
On the basis of latest/correct bill, please:
a) refund credit
b) agree new monthly limit
However, after all this if you continue to have problems then I suggest you contact Energywatch and explain the issue to them.

Thanks, since he called yesterday and they said they would send out an adjusted bill, we'll give them a week or so to sort it. If it's not fixed then i will advise him to contact Energywatch.
It seems he's used 1 unit in 2 weeks (he took a reading 2 weeks ago then one yesterday), obviously it is low in summer but I still can't see he'd use many units. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how many units their household use on average, to compare?
I think his bill said something about 170 units, which I am guessing is Scottish gas' estimate for average monthly usage.0 -
I think perhaps another way of finding out is to go back and look across your old payment bills to find a bill that is not estimated (actual reading) even if its right back at the begining of your contract then take a current reading you will then have both sets of figures the start figure and the current figure so that then you will know the total amount of actual used gas. Sadly with all estimated bills in between and price increases it will be difficult to find out when the tariffs changed. But from the volume of gas used you should at least be able to find that out then take it from their. You could then take those figures to somewhere like citizens advice or seek advice from energy watch.

using building sizes is not always an indicator of what is being used at best its only an average, take for example the age of your boiler? is it a combi boiler (supplys hot water)? same with the gas cookers too.
hope this helps, try to get the units used from your last bill that was not estimated.0 -
Just an update on this, my bf received a bill today that was sent out as a result of his last phone call with Scottish Gas.
And he was staggered to see they had TOTALLY ignored his actual reading and continued to use their estimates and stated he was in debit of £76.
So now they are saying
Estimated reading - 1424
The Actual reading - 0628 (still!)
He is going to call back tomorrow am and ask to speak to a manager because he gave the actual reading 3 times now, first time 3 weeks ago on 21st August, so plenty of time to adjust it. And they just refuse to.0 -
As someone said earlier I would get on to energy watch. I had a problem with a dodgy estimate and they soon moved after energywatch became involved. Very good quick easy to understand service but you have to complain to your supplier first. But if they have had three readings to get it right they don't deserve more chances. Viv XX0
