cycle/ride to work scheme
Does anybody know if a company has to register with one of the schemes that vary from bike shop to bike shop, or can someone go with a company cheque and buy a bike and still be eligible for the payments to be taken out of gross salary.

From my experience the company has to register with a scheme but others may know otherwise.0

My company has decided not to let me do this scheme as I don't really use a bike to commute - any suggestions on other schemes I may try ?? I live in Hertfordshire0

Aren't they missing the point?
The idea is that you get to buy a bike cheaper so that you can commute on your bike.0 -

Unless stephworld really meant to say "My company has decided not to let me do this scheme, as I will not use the bike I want to buy through the cycle to work scheme to commute"0 -

Is your company not doing the scheme or are they doing it but not letting you apply, if it's the latter then it's not right for them to dictate whether you can apply.
I live 60miles from my place of work and still could fore-fill the terms of my companies scheme where I'm expected to do x number for journeys using the bike for commuting. The definition of a journey in the terms of the scheme is any part of the journey, so I could bike 1/2 mile to my station and do the rest of the 60mile journey by train and that's classed as me doing 1 journey using my bike. I could even make it count by just riding to the end of my drive
At the end of the day no one's going to check up on your and it's just a guide to give you a push to use the bike. I know work colleagues who's use the bike to ride to the next street to get in a car share0 -
Loads of staff got bikes on the scheme were i work & very few cycle to work,I got 2 bikes from the scheme one for me and one for the wife i would recommend it.My wife would never dream of cycling now she cycles the 10 miles to the shops & back with anew bike saving her money on petrol and getting fit.I cycle to 20 mile round trip twice a week at least.0
