Immidiate Payment BIN..Does It Put People Off?

I sell quite a lot on BIN, but have a big problem getting money out of people

I then started listing with immidiate payment to try and stop this prob but found i sold less

Do u think it puts people off if they have to pay straight away (it doesnt me personally as i always pay for things as i BIN them) or do you think people dont really understand the concept

I find the Immediate payment in auctions a bit aggressive. Pay right now or else! It put me off the first time I saw this. What is the seller in a hurry for? I would also expect you to run down the post office immediately to post the item! :p

I have come across it a few times and found that when I go on spending sprees on Ebay, I may want to get several items and prefer to pay in bulk - all items at once, otherwise you are signing in and out of PayPal all day long. (how lazy!)

I dont find pay immediately a problem. If I want that item at that price then I may aswell pay when I win the item. It means you dont have to keep going back and check whether you are winning or have won the auction and dont have to come back at a later time and pay.

Slows up the scammers too. If I list an expensive(ish) item I use it if you pay by Buy it Now that means you pay for it now as far as I am concerned and if you are not planning to buy and pay why not?
  • don't see a problem with it, in fact, I take it that if they want immediate payment from me, they will make more of an effort to get it posted to me - saying that, I have never bought anything and not paid for it straight away (ob. if I am not here at the end of auction,in bed or something, i pay the next morning) - I can't understand those that buy something and wait before paying for it tbh.

I use BIN with immediate payment for the week or so before I go on holiday and it never really affects my sales. As a buyer I have no problem with paying immediately so would not be put off with an auction that required it.

Never had a problem listing immediate payment BIN - tends to be for commodity items such as laptop chargers / mobiles etc. Avoids "I'll send a cheque next week" or "waiting for my pay at the end of the month" payment delays. In addition, it cuts down scammers in the idiot-prone categories such as mobile phones (95% of buyers appear to be scammers in this category - I've got an N73 to sell next week so keeping fingers crossed even though I am experienced and will do it via pre-approved bidders).

Ebay do require IP BIN sellers to post within 24hrs so its not one-sided.

I can't see that in the t and cs anywhere, and as I like to keep my 'handy links' file up to date if someone can link to that please post it here for me.

I usually post within 24 hours anyway, so it i sn't a problem I just like to know what I am agreeing to when I do things.

  • Not sure if people have said this but immediate payment excudes people who want to pay by cheque or anyother method of payment other than paypal. I get about 15% of people pay by cheque or Postal Order so it would result a drop in sales to me. I agree with Soolin though about just before you go on holiday, Immediate payment is great for that as theres no hanging around for the payment.

Some people may be unable to pay immediately. I often look at ebay (and bid on items) during my lunch hour at work. The company firewall allows ebay, but blocks paypal so I simply can't pay straight away. I often buy a BIN and then pay for it when I get home. I think it would be better if someone put a "BIN and pay within 24 hours" rule on their auction rather than pay NOW!

yeah i dont mind if people pay within 24hrs but it really annoys me when they do a BIN on a friday night and pay for it the following Thursday - i just am finding im getting an increasing amount of slow payers
