Insuring camera & laptop on holiday

I am attending two summer schools in the UK next month and in both cases I'm staying in dormitories which (I've just learnt) don't have locks on the doors (just a lock on the main entrance to the building).

I had thought about storing my £1k camera and £3k laptop in the car boot but my policy seems to pay a maximum of £100 in the event of personal belongings theft

So any recommendations as to what kind of policy would pay out in the event of theft from unlocked dormitories ?? It could be deemed as business-related so a policy that covers business trips would probably be best.

Your home contents insurance (if your residence has any) may have "away from home cover" for specific items. Always worth checking what they would charge to cover them?

Items away from the home normally have to be secured in a safety deposit box or at the very least in your locked accommodation.
