I'm a great fan of US channels in particular and have been told that there are ways of viewing world channels on a computer. I thought I'd ask if anyone has any advise about the best way to do it, is there some USB type thing? Thanks

No you just have to find them, This http://www.cucirca.com/ site allows you yout to watch 72 mins ago (there are others). I don't know about routers (as I have a DSL Modem), but I have dynamic I.P so just disconnect from internet & clear history & reconnect.0

cucirca.com isn't a legal way to watch TV. You won't be able to watch any mainstream US channels here, legally. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

The channels don't have the rights to broadcast it outside the US, so nope.
The UK channels buy the rights, and they're the only ones with the rights in the UK. No websites etc can legally broadcast it to you.
You just have to wait until they air here, or are available on DVD, or one of the legal catchup services like iplayer. There's a fairly new site started in the UK selling episodes, but the name of it escapes me right now.
edit: got it! http://www.blinkbox.com/TV
edit 2: http://www.seesaw.com/ as wellThey say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
They might be breaking copy write laws by putting the show on line, it is not illegal to watch them.0

Split hairs if you like. I'm not even necessarily saying the OP shouldn't use those sites, we should all make our own minds up. But they should at least be informed that the sites are dodgy.
Just be sure the sites you're using don't use P2P for their video streaming, or you'll be guilty of distributing pirated material. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
