My advice woud be wait, especially given the benefits of the BA miles card and the fact that you travel it would be ideal for you. :)

Seeing as your credit is good, i think its only a matter of time that you get a mainstream card approved and you needn't bother with cards with people with adverse credit. In fact given it is only 2 applications you have made, a third in the next few months wouldn't kill you (but seriously no more after that, till they clear off the 6 month searches!) so if you desperately need a card then i would say apply for it after a while...

My wife was approved for hers as an existing customer of Amex and has a similar income (without a job though) and has a few other cards for a few years so there is hope, don't panic. :)

I'm in a similar quandary, any thoughts would be most grateful!

Nearly 2 months ago I applied for a Tesco Clubcard credit card for the points and to start building my credit history... they declined me, thought it would be sensible to go to the bank where I have my student account (HSBC) and they declined too! Both of them were for "failed scoring" whatever that means

Feeling a bit puzzled I read that I should get copies of my credit reports - Experian and Call Credit were perfect, current a/c, voters roll, phone contract, Equifax has me all muddled up with someone else though :-S Although both Tesco and HSBC say they used Experian.

I'm a research student so income comes termly and my file shows home and term addresses, but I guess lots of people have things like that going on? My quandary is that I move term address in August so should I apply for something else now, or wait, or what?? I've read lots of things about Sygma Bank should I look at something like that?

    So confused! Many thanks

Sygma exclusively use Equifax so make sure it looks good on there now!

My HSBC credit card account certainly appears on Experian and gets regularly updated.

I am puzzled as to why your hsbc credit card history does not appear to be reported to CRA's especially as the card was taken out 3 years ago.

You should write to customer relations department and make a complaint on this issue and they can check it out with the credit data team.

ALL hsbc products (loans, CC, bank accounts) are reported to ALL three CRA's.

Yeah my HSBC CC is on my Experian file - not sure what the deal is there with Rachel's account.

    Hey

I have a similar query. I have had two 0% purchase credit cards now (both have been cancelled after the 0% period). I applied for a Tesco one 2 months ago and also got rejected. I have just applied for a Barclaycard Platinum (0% too) and also got rejected!

My credit report is okay and suspect it is just because i've been classed as a 'tart'.

My question is if i've been rejected by Barclaycard for the 0% could I now apply for their credit card that has a 6.85 rate? I don't mind paying interest if it's low...!

Any thoughts would be appreciated on where to go next....
    Proud to be dealing with my debts... October '08 - £1840 > July '09 - £0000
    Now to save... or not... September '09 - £1800 > July '10 £0000

Have you had any recent missed payments? That would be enough for many lenders to turn you down. The other thing is because you have been tarting, and swopping debt around without making money for them, they can spot this trend and can decline you.
