laptop will not write to sd card

When i put my sd card into my laptop i am informed that the card is write protected.
IT IS NOT
How do i know this, if i put the same card into another laptop you can write to it without any problems.
there must be something wrong with my laptop settings
Have tried going back to an earlier restore point - no luck
Can someone help?

Try to check it with card reader.0

You haven't accidentally moved the little thing on the side of the SD card up or down have you? Think down write protects it if I remeber correctly.0

Is it an older laptop? Is this a newer SDHC card? How big is the SD card? Can the laptop read data from the card? Can the laptop read or write data to a different card? Was the laptop ever able to write to this card?0
