Exchanging next week but no definite completion date

I don't know if it is possible, but if it is and you want to be flexible and show willing to your vendors, perhaps you could exchange with an indefinite completion date but with a definite endstop. So if their place is available sooner, you can complete sooner but if it isn't available by the date you set then they have to make alternative arrangements. If you can do this, set the end date at the latest date you could live with - definitely before your mortgage offer runs out but whatever suits your other circumstances as well?0

Thanks for the input everyone.
I will speak to my solicitor today and may be move ahead only if we can agree on definite end date of the contract if their house is not ready.
Thanks again.0 -
Tell the sellers to sod off and help the builder get their place built!0

Can your sellers not move into short term rented accommodation? Its one thing to agree to exchange without a completion date when you are buying a new build but completely another when you are not the ones doing so!0

You are completely within your rights to postpone the date of exchange until they can give you a definite completion date, and draw this completion date into the contract. Just because you're new to this, doesn't mean they can walk all over you.0
