Hi
Our boy is 11 and on his last visit to the dentist we were told that he still had too many of his baby teeth, the dentist thinks that it could be that the roots on his baby teeth are too long, and as such his adult teeth cannot come through. He said that he would refer him to the orthodontist, and explained that they would pull out his baby teeth to allow his adult ones to come on. He also said that he has hardly any enamel on his teeth so they were painted with some stuff. I was told as a child that I hardly had any enamel on my teeth also.
Has anyone else had these problems with their childrens teeth?

Well we were surprised when the dentist said this, or boy doesnt ever complain about any tooth pain, so we thought his teeth were "normal".
He has only lost about 6 of his baby teeth so far.
The dentist has never mentioned any "problems" before with his teeth, however he never sees the same dentist as they all seem to leave and they have all been foreign.

My eldest is 11 in August, he has lost the main baby teeth, the front top and bottom and his 'fangs' are through but he lost the first of his molars only the other week0

There is huge variation with the eruption times of adult teet. There isnt anything "wrong" per se they may just be slow coming through. I would however avoid having any baby teeth extracted until they have made sure there are adult teeth on their way!! Wait for the orthodontists assessment before having the teeth extracted IMO0

think it is fairly common,i have a 12 and a 14 yr old with several baby teeth, and an alomst 17 who only lost his last couple within the last year. (and an alomost 10 yr old who has only lost 4/5 baby ones)
i have been told by at least 2 dentists that unless they are causing problems and pain, the longer teh baby ones stay in place the better, i remember being at leaset 15 with baby teeth still in place.Lead us not into temptation...
just tell us where it is and we'll find it....0 -
My now 21 year old didn`t lose the last of her baby teeth until she was 17. She still had lots at 15. Dentist told us too that they would have to be pulled but they came out on their own. I always thought the longer they stay in the better!0

As a child I had to have virtually all of my baby teeth taken out as my adult teeth were starting to grow behind them. But if there's nothing like that happening then I don't see why they should have to take baby teeth out, but thats what the orthodontist will tell you. My ex still had a baby tooth at the age of 33! It sat between his two bottom front teeth and did look a bit odd due to it being so small. The dentist said it was doing no actual harm other than there being a gap between the front teeth to accommodate it. It had got quite loose at the root end but was wedged in between the other teeth. It only came out when he poked it with some toy traffic lights!!0

I'm 39 and I still have a baby tooth. I'm quite fond of it actually, wouldn't like to lose it now.0

My brother will be 34 next week and has the majority of his baby teeth, the dentist wasn't that bothered about it but has repainted them as the enamel was worn away.
My brother also isn't bothered and was worried incase he would have to have them all taken out!. I however think they look small and kind of creepy ( shh don't tell him!!):beer:0 -
