You seem to have enough proof of purchase (card statement & priced box from store) and they are not denying this. The issue unless I have read wrong is that they are offering you the lower refund amount. I agree with your thoughts that this is completely wrong unless the item is one only expected to last a finite time and you had use for 10% or so of that time.

Have you bought any other items from this store in the past? Do you still have receipts for those? Look for something that has gone down in price instore and demand a refund of that amount, will highlight how ludicrous their position is.

The product I bought could easily last 10+ years, so no issues with wear and tear over a few days.

Shouldnt even have to go this far IMO. They are effectively in breach of the SOGA. They CANNOT insist on it being a till receipt.

Try and get them to put it in writing that they wont do anything without a till receipt - even though you have provided a statement as POP.

Once you have that, i'd contact trading standards.

One thing i just noticed actually, although the transaction isnt covered by section 75, it doesnt mean your bank cant help you, it just means they are not jointly liable. So may be worthwhile just checking with them if theres anything you can do.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
