An internet shopping war has been triggered after web giant Amazon announced a new grocery division selling big brands from Pampers nappies to Walkers crisps.
The web grocery store will offer 22,000 brands and represents a direct threat to the dominance of specialist internet supermarkets, Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Ocado.
They key battlegrounds will be the range, quality, price, convenience and the speed of deliveries.

I think its got a long way to go before its like Tesco0 -
The way they are going they will take over the world soon.0

Yes that occurred to me, I never see point in shopping for grociers online anyway I prefer go to shops for that although I shopped online for 12+ years now0

The problem with the current offerings is that they are sourced from different suppliers, so the delivery costs could be horrendous if you were buying several items.
They'll certainly have to do something about the delivery charges before I'll be tempted.
Edit, just read the DM article which says all items will be free on supersaver delivery - but I have just clicked through on a few items out of curiosity and they all had postage charges.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Yes I found many that way with chargers dont think its setup properly its a nightmare to use0

Waste of time really, have a looooong way to go before they come even close to being as good as any other online supermarket, or speciality store. Good start though, see how it goes.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

I don't think it's a waste of time, although I agree they have a long way to go to be close to other online supermarkets.
But I don't think that's what they are trying to do, yet. They are not aiming at people doing a full grocery shop at Amazon, at least not yet. They are aiming at the people who just need a small number of things, or even just one.
Ebay sellers have been doing this for years, they go into Ikea, or any other high street store, buy something then sell it for a profit on ebay. I've often thought about doing it myself. I've seen jars of spices that are 98p in Morrisons/Tesco etc. sell on ebay for £3. Why? Because there are people living in little villages etc. that can't get to the supermarkets easily. It would cost them a lot more than £3 to go to a supermarket to get the jar of spice.
So if ebay sellers can make it work, I'm sure Amazon can too.
I'm pretty sure all those people who use cashback sites, survey sites etc. that pay in amazon vouchers will be pleased with this too. They will be able to use the vouchers to buy groceries, instead of having to use them up buying presents etc.0 -
Serious?
I mean what would the groceries look like when they arrive 14 days later?
This is just plain silly.0 -

Nobody is saying it will take 14 days to deliver the goods. But even if it did, they would look exactly the same.
They are only selling "long life" stuff, not loaves of bread and fresh cream cakes.
This is just plain silly.
Why is it silly, they are not selling anything you can't already get on ebay. Well the same types of things if not the exact same brand.
Amazon dot com have been selling these items for a long time, so if it works for the yanks it will probably work here too.0 -
I noticed this today

Very happy about it, because the shops that our shopping gets delivered from are pretty small so they don't carry most of the stuff I like to get and small independant websites can be a nightmare.
Won't replace Tesco and Asda for us though as there are obviously no frozen, fridge, or fresh sectionsThis is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.
