I just wanted to leave something worth while.

You clearly love this lady very much,

Your posts have, at times, moved me to tears, although this lady has her problems she is very, very fortunate to have someone love and care for her as much as you do. I always say if life takes away one thing it always compensates you with another. You are 'it'
I really do wish you both the very best.

    Annie.

Aw thanks for that.....Im not that great really lol. I still do typical man stuff....Leave the toilet seat up, watch football till it comes out my ears ect ect lol. But I do lover her and I do want to do "right" by her. She feels the same about me though and looks after me like no other before her. So its a two way thing (as it should ideally be).

Once again I would like to say a big thankyou to all who have posted with their helpful comments and links to websites ect. I am going to familiarise myself with the inner workings of her 2 main conditions and after I know what can/can't be done to help alleviate these conditions then I will assist her with DLA claim.

RNIB have a factsheet for filling in the DLA forms.

Has she been in contact with social services? They should be able to help with adaptions and other useful equipment.

Do get an opinion from another optician - preferably one that spends plenty of time with the patient. I often find that nystagmus patients have strong prescriptions which can give a significant improvement to vision. They are more tricky to test, but patience often pays off.

Hi, please be very careful about not declaring your income. If it would cause too much financial hardship for you both I would wait until you've sorted out the DLA before you move in together.

Also, try and send as much evidence as possible with the claim - gp and consultant's letters and up to date eye and hearing tests. I think she may have been turned down before because both conditions can range from slightly to severely affected. (I only mention meniere's on one bit of the form as I'm not severely affected by this, at least, not compared to my other medical problems).

You will have to provide evidence to show the care and mobility needs arising from the conditions, as that is what they assess. HTH and good luck!

Isnt it refreshing to hear that there are really good 'partners' out there who love and support their other halfs - my hubby is an angel - he has 3 of us to deal with - all of us pretty poorly - he took all 3 of us on, warts and all, and never complains - and he is a star.

You hear so much bad stuff in this Jeremy Kyle society - its nice to hear that there really are some lovely people in the world too.

Although i never ever take my husband for granted - i sometimes forget that day to day things must be tough for him too.

Maybe those of us with illnesses and disabilities ought to take a step back every now and then, and really be grateful for our friends and family who support us.

    - i know i couldnt manage without them x x

My FIL was registed blind due to nystagmus yet his son (my husband) was able to do anthing he wants, thats the range of nystagmus that Ive come into contact with and no doubt the full range is even wider.

No one can say that a eye condition is negliable without understanding the full range of the symptoms and disability that they can cause, it ignorance to post the quote the above post.

wobbly eyes can be nothing but add in the full range of nystagmus symptons and life can be very difficult.

how is it negliable, if someone reading this thread has a child who has been diagnosed it would worry them sick, i was purely stating not everyone diagnosed will have poor eyesight, so remove yourself from my throat

read my post, your clearly havnt!

Any parent would see from my post that this condition goes from negligable to my FILs being blind because thats the limit of my experiance and I admit that there is a much wider spectrum that I havnt come into contact with.
