    Banks are devious scumbags ..

A bit like the people who run up huge debts on credit cards and then cry wolf and look to blame anyone but themselves and get out of their debt by dubious means anyway they can!
The same can be said for those who fail to read/choose to ignore what's put in front of them.

Your second mistake was to post on here thinking you were being helpful and providing advice to other moneysavers facing similar situations, whereas the real purpose of this forum is to provide a platform for smug smartass cretins who will just tell you that you are stupid for believing what it actually said on your statement and for not having read the 8 pages of incomprehensible conditions printed in light grey 4-point font.

Maybe some day these pedants will read the Etiquette guidelines at the head of this page and recall that the motto of the site is 'Consumer Revenge'. But I'm not holding my breath...

Try taking your own advice CRETIN !

On the other hand with MBNA, once a DD has been set up it will be taken, regardless of any manual payments received since the bill was compiled. (You have to inform MBNA, if you want the DD to be pulled out of the system.)

Plenty of people come here to complain: “I paid the whole balance and MBNA took the DD on top of it.”
