Barclay's Account Made Inactive

Hi

I have had an account with Barclay's for the past few years, didn't use it any more and just left £1 in, as a result it has gone inactive. Would this be easy to open again? Or would I have to close it down and re-open it?

Also would this hurt my credit rating at all?

Thanks

all you would need to do to make it active again is go into a branch, pay in £1 and request new cards/cheques/whatever, it would be wise to arm yourself with some form of photo ID.

    Why?
Serious question. How would that assist their security process?
Other than to enable them to tick another box on their form.

ETA: Or is that what you mean? It will keep them happy, so ensure a speedier operation?

How do they know it's really you and not a money launderer looking for inactive accounts to pass money through in someone else's name?

That's why they will want ID.
  • PhotoID is quicker. (If the account went dormant, the signature card will probably be down the back of a drawer somewhere :D

Be warned though - the bank may want to take the opportunity for you to sit down with them and update the information they hold about you on their computer (read as ... sales opportunity.)

They may ask what your intentions are with the account. If you're only going to put another £1 in it, what's the point of having the account in the first place?
