Odd courgette flowers
One of my courgette plants is producing male only stems with 2 flower heads on, looks lovely when the flowers open, both male ones, been doing this for the last few weeks.
Must have thrown up 2 dozen or more now like it.
I have never seen one do this before any ideas?
My other one is giving me lots of nice normal courgettes, eaten several already with more in the fridge.
Both plants sown from the same seed packet.

Hi Annie123, must be from the same pack as mine then (lol). I have four plants and only one of them has had a female flower that has resulted in a courgette (still growing), the rest are all male flowers...grrrrh. But it's my first year of GYO so I'm not unduly worried, I'm experimenting this year to see what works and what doesn't.It doesn't hurt to be optimistic....you can always cry later.
You don't get if you don't ask!0 -
They often throw up male flowers first but its the amount of them and the double flower heads thats thrown me.0

Same here lol I've got 2 plants, gave 2 to my Dad after reading how many courgettes they produce and the fact only me likes them! But only 1 plant has produced any flowers yet and they've all been male flowers with double heads! No sign of any females yet!Debt @ LBM - £25,722 Debt now - £11,811 DFD - April 2012

That makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one thank you:)0 -
They're quite common, I see them all the time. No idea why though.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

Thats good to know, never happened in all the years I've been growing them.
Do they eventually start producing courgettes?0 -
Its my first year growing them and I noticed I get loads of male heads with only 1 plant producing female. I got the seeds free from the BBC. What should I do with the male flowers? Let them die or cut them off straight away?0

The same has happened to me as wellMortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0

It's common they produce the double male flowers, but I have never seen a plant solely produce male double (or single) flowers for a couple of weeks!
Don't know what to advise, shock it somehow I suppose, I would try cutting some leaves off, or feeding heavily, no watering.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I could take it with me to see my MIL tomorrow, that would shock it:rotfl:
Sorry MIL:o.........She's lovely really;)
Its been at least 2 weeks maybe longer that it's been doing this, tomorrow it loses some leaves, will see how that goes.
Do you think I should cut all the male stems off too?0
