E.on - Check your Direct Debit amount
I've just got a bill from E.on and even though I'm in credit and their own estimate for my annual spend would mean I would remain in credit they tried to up it from £93 to £112 per month.
When I rang to challenge this they immediately agreed to carry on at the present rate. I asked why this had happened and was told that it must have been a mistake on my account.
As these are computer generated I would suggest that it is more likely a system error and could be applied far more widely.

I suspect there might be quite a lot of people in your shoes in the next few days/weeks as it's the spring reviews of what E.On call "payment adequacy" where the system works out what you've paid/due to pay and calculates what you are going to use and sets the DD accordingly...it invariably never works.Dannii_B

Hi JOHNFH
As Danii says, Direct Debits are currently going through their annual reviews.
With these arrangements, we aim to achieve a zero balance by the time of the next annual review. Ideally, the calculation will be based on previous usage at the property.
If some incorrect data has been entered on your account (like a dodgy meter reading for example), it is possible the Direct Debit was set at the wrong level.
It could also be your usage increased over the previous 12 months, possibly due to the really cold winter this time around. This, too, would have triggered the proposed increase in your payments.
Difficult to say what might have happened without actually seeing your account.
I would recommend keeping an eye on the account. Give us a call if you see a debt building up. If it turns out we were wrong to lower the Direct Debit, we can soon put this right before the debt becomes too big.
By the same token, the arrangement can be lowered if too much credit is building up on the account. However, there will be some credit during the summer to offset higher winter bills.
Hope this helps give a general picture of our Direct Debit policy. Give me a shout if you need any more details as will be happy to help.
