EDF Estimated Electricity Bills

1. EDF have recently taken over from Seeboard.
2. Now they issue estimated bills, with a note that to supply an actual reading, visit website or telephone.
3. My last bill was estimated, I registered the actual reading, that is only recorded for information only.
4. I asked for the over-estimate (it always is) to be refunded (30%).
5. I was offered a scheme where I can provide an actual reading, 11 days before the billing date, and receive an actual charge. I can't be bothered.
6. EDF also read the meter shortly after billing date, that reading is on my record.
7. Either EDF get the estimate closer, or every quarter EDF get terse telephone call (because I have wasted my time in a queue) to repay the overcharge. Maybe I shall transfer.
8. Previously, providing an actual reading before the DD date of the estimated bill, was actioned as an amended bill and DD.
9. What is the total of known credit balances held by EDF, what is EDF's estimate of overbilled amounts? One way of financing a French business.

Join the self read scheme and they will pay you to take meter readings! I never receive an estimated bill, just a reminder that I need to do my meter readings each quarter.

I can't speak for EDF but in general I believe most companies have an overall debit balance averaged out over the whole year.

If you read this forum many people are hundreds and indeed thousands of pounds in debit.

    This is because:
    1. The companies often leave the DD the same for a year or two despite the huge increases in prices.
    2. Underestimating meter readings is very common.
    3. When changing suppliers, companies/comparison sites fix the DD artificially low as an inducement to get customers to change.
    4. The 'normal' sequence of events is to be well in debit at the end of the winter and reduce that debit over the summer months and build up a credit.

I think that says it all really! You have the opportunity to get an accurate bill calculated from your own readings but you can't be bothered.
