Printer Woes

Bit of a long shot here, but I'm hoping someone may have some suggestions.
I've got a Canon Pixma IP4500, it's about 18 months old. When printing photos, the colours are terrible - the whole thing has a blue / greenish hue.
I've put in fresh ink cartridges, run the head cleaning / deep cleaning and nozzle check / alignment processes, but it's no better.
Now, when I print the nozzle check pattern, it's obvious there's a problem. Those of you who have this printer will know what I'm talking about, but I'll try and explain. It prints a grid pattern using black ink, and it prints 3 solid blocks with each of the Yellow, Cyan and Magenta inks. Yellow and Cyan are fine - 3 good blocks each. But the Magenta prints one block that's very "streaky", then the other 2 blocks are barely visible at all. So it looks like a problem with the Magenta ink.
I've tried several fresh cartridges to no avail. I'm guessing it may be a problem with the print head itself ????? I hope not, as a replacement head is almost as much as a new printer. As I mentioned, it's about 18 months or so old, so out of warranty but I would expect it to last longer than that.
Any suggestions as to what the problem may be, or things I could try to fix it ?

Sounds like the Print Head ....and you are right, it probably isn't worth replacing when you can buy a new printer for the same price ....I had the same issue with a Canon Pixma a while ago.0
