Camera Advice - Panasonic TZ7

Hi,

Got a bit of money as a surprise, and with the new arrival round the corner, I want a top of the pops camera. Have read up, and it seems the TZ7 is the best I think, there is a TZ10 but all that's extra is GPS which I'll never use.

Just wondering if anyone has one, has any alternatives as suggestions, and is camerabox.co.uk for £200 with a 5 year warranty the best deal around?

Many thanks for any advice.

got my first store card on my 18th birthday, never known a life without the grey cloud of debt looming over me. 18yrs and the end is finally in sight 🤩

That one on Amazon looks good, is £15 extra on camerabox worth the 5 year warranty though?

It's actually an extra £22.99 as Camerabox charge £7.99 delivery whereas Amazon is free. I think it comes with a 1 Year warranty from Panasonic, and personally I wouldn't pay extra for an extended guarantee.

Details of the Camerabox warranty are here:

    http://www.camerabox.co.uk/FAQS.asp

A five year warranty is provided. In the first 30 days, return the product to Camerabox for exchange or repair. The first year of the warranty is covered as per the terms of the manufacturer warranty by Camerabox. In the second year of the warranty, where a manufacturer does not provide warranty coverage, parts and labour warranty coverage will be provided by Camerabox who will arrange repairs with a designated service centre. In the remaining 35 months Camerabox will provide warranty cover of parts only.

Always return your product to Camerabox Ltd. Failure to do so will cause a delay in service and you may incur unnecessary postage or direct costs with a service centre. Please be aware that the warranty coverage applies to breakdown and does not cover accidental damage caused.

FWIW my own TZ1 has not had any problems in nearly 4 years.

    Thanks Stompa.
I think I better take out insurance as I have no doubt I will do something at some point, and my OH is already unhappy I'm 'wasting money' as I have a camera on my phone. He doesn't get fuzzy phone pictures of my newborn won't quite be the same.

The warranty only covers breakdown not damage caused by the owner. Wouldn't bother with the 5 yr insurance if I were you.

Ah, I was going to find an external company to pay for proper 'me dropping it in the bath' insurance etc. Don't mind paying a fiver a month or whatever for piece of mind.

If you want insurance for peace of mind, you can buy a 5 year "extended warranty" on Amazon (on behalf on Allianz Insurance) as long as you buy it from Amazon at the same time as your camera. £44 for 5 years for cameras £150-£200 and covers both breakdown cover (from when the manufacturer's warranty runs out) and accidental damage.

Don't know how 'good' the cover is, so have a good look at the T&Cs to check it's what you want though.

hmmm, £18 for 3 years or £44 for 5 years.... Bet if it broke in year 4, the cash equivalent theyd give me for a 4 yr old camera would be pretty low. Might just go for the 3 yearer.
