To you Cardew and noncom, yes you are correct my non expertise getting in the way.

Those figures seem quite good to me if thats what got generated.

Someone else today for a quote too, but going to email my MP and see what she can find out in regards to the governments grants etc!
    Hi smitchy73

For homeowners, solar pv grants were withdrawn when the FiT scheme came into effect earlier this year. There were a few lucky people who were able to benefit from grants and still register for FiT payments within the changeover period.

Don't forget smitchy lives in Scotland and there are all sorts of grants in Scotland that are not available in England.

Somebody posted a while ago that they got a grant after it was withdrawn in England.

Not saying they are still available, but it is worth checking.

Yeah I've checked through the energy saving trust and there doesn't seem to be any grants available now even in Scotland. What I should've said is that I have now contacted my MP to try and find out more about the interest free green loans that are talked about for 2012. What's really annoying is the Carbon Trust I think are still offering interest free loans to business's to pay for this to be done but not to homeowner's, seems crazy but I'm sure there will be an underlying reason.
Back to price's I got my quote through from the local company yesterday and it was £15.5k but for an increased amount of 3.96kwp with 18 panels, I also had a guy round from another company who thought I'd only get 5/6 panels per side of roof, this guy seemed to talk sense due to a bit of shade from the wee chimney breast, which the way their panels are stringed, if one gets shaded the whole lot switch off.
    So we'll see what happens!!
Thanks to all the competition posters.

Grants are no longer available in Scotland either. The scheme was closed a few weeks ago.

I've just started looking at Solar Panels (along with most other people of my age in the UK it seems).

    So far:
I have found a great site which predicts output based on position, altitude, inclination and direction. I can't post a link because I'm new but just google PV Estimation Utility and you'll find it.
    I have a quote from E.on of almost £12,000 for a 2.22 KWp system (£5400/kWp).
I have a quote from another installer of £10,574 for a 2.82 kWp system (£3750/kWp).
A friend on the other hand was recently quoted £15k for a 1.8 kWp system.
There are some quite large variations around.
I am interested to know what others are finding.
Perhaps we should keep and updated post of Installed system cost of a typical 2.5 kWp system?

In my case that would be about £13.5k/kWp from E.on and £9.4k/kWp from the independent. (i.e. 30% cheaper per kWp from the independent).

e.on do seem to be overpricing their systems pretty substantially.

We had a quote from them for £5000 more than a more or less identical system which Tesco did for us. Both quotes were based on the same survey by Mark Group.

For what it's worth, the installation was very well done, and I'm delighted with it. Enact Energy (who handle it for Tesco, and for M&S) were nice people to deal with, and the Mark Group people were also excellent in every way. Helpful, pleasant, civilised, flexible - exactly what you'd hope for from a group of men working in your house, but don't always get.

The installation works exactly as it should, and it was a thoroughly neat job, done exactly in accordance with the way we wanted it done. Can't recommend them highly enough. We had great reservations about using anything with a Tesco branding to it, and were going to go local, but the price was unbeatable. Despite that, the installation couldn't have been done better.

Just searched on the web. Tescos would be 12k for a 2.8 kWp system so that's almost £1500 more than the best quote we have so far !!!!! Thanks for the lead though.

Where did you get £12k for a 2.8kWp Tesco system? This is their webpage

They only offer a fixed price for the sizes listed there to my knowledge. Obviously the bigger the system you install the cheaper it is per watt.
