Decking oil application

Dry weather forecast so I set to work on the decking. Hands and knees, paintbrush and Wickes decking oil. After 2 hours and only one-eighth done I bought a pressure spray and finished the job off.
Then I look at the decking oil can and it says "Apply with a brush". Apart from the spray using more oil than a brush, is there a reason that a spray isn't recommended? Still got the second coat to do, so I'm hoping I can spray it on!

I had to paint 32 fence panels last week and there was no way I was going to stand there with a paint brush for a week. We read the small print on the curprinol "normal" shed paint and the "spray" shed paint. They were both water soluble so all we did was purchase the "normal" stuff and watered it down slightly (2 parts paint, 1 part water), gave it a good shake and sprayed it on. Worked a blooming treat and saved us a small fortune too :T
We paid £10 for a tub or "normal" paint compared to £20 for the spray stuff (and the spray stuff comes in a smaller tub). It's such a rip off.
If spraying the decking has worked, albeit using a bit more oil, then carrying on. They just say things like this so you spend and use more.0
