child tax when out of work?

just after some advice as the direct gov site isnt very clear.
basically we bought a house 200 miles away 5 months ago, hubby now finishes work next week.have got quite lot contacts in new area and has signed up for agencies and will do any job available...but, although we have a safety net of enough money to pay bills, mortgage etc for about 4 months I am just trying to understand the situation if he didnt find work straight away regarding child tax credits. we dont get working tax credit.

as he has left his current job voluntarily I know job seekers can be sanctioned for 26 weeks, but wondering
if the child tax credit claim carries on,
or if a new claim goes in to replace our existing one once he registers for work.
and if this is the case is there a delay in waiting for new payments to start? and also once he finds work does that mean another new claim?

thanks for any replies

  • It makes no difference so long as your responsibility for the child remains unbroken. You dont need a new claim, just advise them of your (presumably) new income and the fact hes no longer working.
