What nobody has questioned is: do you have travel insurance? If so and you have lost your job then you may be able to claim on that. Taking out holiday insurance is just not for overseas holidays.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I don't book a holiday unless I have the funds set aside to pay for the entire holiday (same goes for any major purchase I make). I never buy something on the belief that I'll have the funds in the future to pay for it.

Can any of us claim that redundancy is an unforseen circumstance these days ? (my company made £10billion net profit yet is still making redundancies)
Which is entirely correct in sentiment and I agree. However, if you were made redundant - I suppose you might have to prioritise looking for a new job, or be available to start should you get a new one.
Nipping off for a week in Devon isn't perhaps the best thing to do (although you could argue that's when you need it most).0 -
I totally agree with you, but my point was more that you've have the funds to pay the bill. You need not actually go on holiday, it just avoids the baliffs popping round for a visit.Legal team on standby0

I never did sign a contract, just sent £70 in the post..recived a letter saying thanks for the deposit...at the bottom it said...p.s..........we advise you to insure against having to cancel your holiday due to unseen circumstances.
If unable to re-let we have to ask for the outstanding balance.
Should have done that but never thought i would come out of work.0 -

Have you checked your house insurance or bank insurance do any of these cover UK holidays, and you would think that in august they would be able to relet no problem.0 -
