can anyone tell me the costs involved as my son has been told £100 deposit for the camera and £25 per week for photographic paper, plus his travel costs to a different school as only a handful of students are doing it
thanks

It will vary considerably between schools. Best to give them a call.Gone ... or have I?0

Surely the costs your son has been given are what it will cost?0

these costs have been given to him by another student in yr13 who did photography for 2 weeks, they said they gave it up because of cost, tho i didnt think 2 weeks was hardly enough time to ascertain this, think i will call school in morning to see if i can get more details0

I'm sure that's a good idea. There's no way they'd have to spend 25 quid a week on photographic paper - I expect that would have lasted for most of the course.0 -
£25 for photographic paper is a lot of money on paper, I expect that would last him a while.
The college wont allow him to waste paper on rubbish images, part of the course will be about editing and selecting the final image to print.
Depending on the college they will charge per print as used, I know my college does and its not even that expensive.
Maybe the other lad just used the ''cost'' as an excuse, maybe he was just rubbish at it or really didnt understand it, its not just a case of taking a picture, there is a hell of a lot more involved in it well at HND level there is, not sure about a 6th form course.
Have you rung the college this morning, what did they say.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

spoke to them this morning, the costs are approx £100-£150 per year so the weekly costs wont be much at all, they go through 2-3 boxes of paper per year at £28 plus film at £1
he will be relieved as that is alot more affordable0 -

Yes film, although digital is now the norm, you still have to learn the basics of using film and also using the dark room and processing your own prints. Like I said before, its not just about pointing and shooting.
Using film and the dark room is one part of the course I am extremely excited about doing.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
