Historic Rental Prices

Hi
Hope someone may be able to help with this. An elderly relative died in 2008. Since 1984 she lived with her daughter, leaving her property unoccupied.
The house is now up for sale as the estate is wrapped up, however, there is a significant tax issue which it appears can be mitigated partially by offsetting the notinal rent that would have been received had the property been let.
I am trying to find out what the property would have been let for from 1984 to 2008. I know it will differ by property and location.
Is there an index of rents similar to house prices?
Where else could I start to find this information?
Thanks David
