I Can't get a credit card?

in Credit cards
Hi all,
I was looking to get a credit card but i ve applied for 2 and got turned down on both occasions.
This is my story so far-
Mid April we apply for a joint mortgage with the Abbey. After a couple of weeks of them messing us about my Financial Adviser tells me there messing us about and he's found us a better deal with C&G.
We apply for the C&G mortgage, everything is fine untill i find a better one online. I phone my Mortgage Adviser to see if he can sort it out for but the offer s not available to him and if i want this deal i must go into the branch and do it IN-HOUSE. I agree but i have to go through another mortgage application. The Mortgage Advisor in C&G says that it could be a problem because i ve had so many mortgage applications, but everything went through ok and she told us that we must have a good credit rating.
All is now fine and we have have exchanged contracts on a house and complete on the 23rd of this month.
Would all this activity on my credit report affect me having a credit card??? if so how long do you think i should leave it before applying for a credit card again????
any feedback will be greatly appreciated,
cheers
james

I advise you not to apply for any credit related products in the next 3, preferably 6 months as you had quite a few credit searches. HTH.0 -

I think the Credit Expert deal is worth paying for - I check mine twice a month.0 -
Even if the credit score was perfect, if the card provider manually underwrite it, the fact that you have just taken out a mortgage might suggest you are going to take on more debt with home improvements. Would suggest you hold off for a few months.0

thanks bye bye debt for your advice
thats all i wanted it for was home improvements but they can wait.
so you do think my credit score has taken a battering recently then???0 -
Well of course every lender works to a different criteria, however its generally accepted that the more applications made, the more it will affect your ability to get credit.
Of course, once you are a home owner, that is also normally seen as a good thing.
Why not get a copy of your report in a months time. Check that all is ok, and then decide what to do from there.
Callcredit were doing 3 months of unlimited reports for £12 with a credit score once a month. Personally credit scoring is probably a little irrelevent (these boards are full of perfect score credit people, that can't get a credit card), but its slightly more interesting than paint drying watching the score change monthly.0 -
i ve just renewed my membership with creditexpert. £7.99 a month
i ll let you know how i go
cheers again0
