Clothes in rest homes are washed and tumbled dried to within an inch of their lives.
Everything will need to be named and as a previous poster has said, things often go missing.

Maybe try some local markets, clothes can easily be ruined in tumble dryers.

I can definitely recommend Bon Marche - a lot of the patients at work have clothes from there and they stand up wonderfully well to being washed at stupidly high temperatures and being tumble-dried in similar machines to the ones res homes have.
Tops like this one for example http://www.bonmarche.co.uk/more_details.php?id=202&cid=21 - cotton/polyester mix wash fantastic, dont shrink and look very smart.

Please provide cotton underwear for the Lady. The reason for the awful smell in homes is due to nylon or synthetic underwear/nightwear.

A word too in favour of Bon Marche. I was so disenchanted with M&S T's since they went free trade. One wash and 4 inches shorter, I wondered where I could get a T that wouldn't show my flesh when I moved.

Bon Marche's T's are great. As Mrs Ryan said above, they don't alter at all from a wash.

Please dont dress this lady wear non iron clothes. I have worked in care homes . It's convenient for staff, but, would you want to wear a no iron dress . Waiting for god and all that springs to mind

    So sad.

I've already said "I didn't know staff did laundry".

Until now she has done her own laundry & nothing is ironed.

I would rather she looked uncrumpled if ironing is not done than wear stuff unironed that needs ironing.

I would rather myself uncrumpled than crumpled when I'm that age.

I used to do shifts in some of these 'care' homes, and from time to time, an outside firm would bring in boxes of clothes for the residents and their relatives to see and buy if they wanted anything. Everything was hung on those portable display frames and nicely set out. The things weren't bad, either. I actually bought a couple of skirts from them.

There were vests and knickers etc, also stuff for men, pyjamas and vests and pants. One thing though -I asked the people selling the clothes about bras and they looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language. 'Oh they don't want bras at this age' or something was what they responded. Come to think of it, I worked in a few of those homes and I never saw a lady with a bra, just vest and knickers, although I would have thought, some of the bigger ladies especially would have been more comfortable with a bra - you can understand why, tooooo much information!

My mother was in a residential home for 5 years. They were great with her clothes except they wanted to iron everything! I particularly remember a duvet cover (she took her own bedding- felt more 'her' place) where the plastic poppers had been melted by an iron!

I would suggest that the lady in question uses everything she has now, especially wearing 'things saved for best.' my mother had some lovely clothes which never had the chance to wear out.

As for synthetic versus non iron she should be wearing what suits her. Homes tend to be overheated so if she feels the heat then natural fibres are the way to go.
Personally I would rather be clean, crumpled and comfy!! ironing clothes has never been top of my list but clothes with a viscose mix (old fashioned rayon , I think) behave well.
Lots of luck with your search.
