Gas pipe on external wall

Is it common and safe to put gas pipe on external wall. for a combi? I was given the option as it will be much easier than having the gas pipe inside the house. Also the airing cupboard is long & deep and the gas engineer told me he does not have go right at the back on the external wall, he can put on the side or where I want and if he does that I can easily gain access otherwise it will be hassle to get at the back. Is this possible? He does seem to know what he is talking about. Gasman I need your advice, pl? Thanks

Much easier for who ?
I would have concerns about an external location for the pipe. It may be more invloved, but I think the lar the pipe is in the cupboardMortgage free

mine is on the outside and i have seen many houses with it the same.
it is quite common to do so and causes no problems. You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.0 -

Much easier for the gas engineer and it will save it looking ugly inside the house and it will be cheaper for me. I was given the options where I want it done and he only gave me his opinion. It will be much better outside and I do not feel comfortable if it is out.0 -
Thanks, I have noticed many houses with the gas pipe outside whilst out walking and checking. Your post is re-assuring I think I will have it outside and out of the way and it will cause less disturbance. If I have it inside, it involves loads of work and going through cupboard and it will me more.0

My gas meter is on the wall outside in a white box and a gas pipe runs from it along the outside of my house and enters about half way down to under the stairs where it divides to other places. It is bound with a yellow tape, like a waterproofing, plastic type stuff. All the houses here are the same.0

I fit gas pipes externally all the time. It may not be the prettiest but it is cheaper than ripping floors up etc and most people want to save money. It is also much easier for engineer and causes less disruption for the customer.0
