CATALOGUE Default Charges

I recently was charged £12 for not making the minimum payment to a well known mail order catalogue company. In fact I currently dont owe the company any money as the only item outstanding is a furniture item which is awaiting a repair visit and is still under 14 days home approval. I paid the full balance of what I owe for items ordered, received and kept. There has been an issue with furniture delivered faulty and whilst the items have been returned to base they are still showing as a charge on my account and this is what the default fee relates to. Surely I cannot be charged for not paying for an item that has been returned? Does anyone know the legislation on this?

Have you tried phoning them to sort it out with them first?

I've had similar problems in the past. The charges go onto your account as soon as you make the order and it may take some time for them to process returns so they expect you to pay (or make a partial payment) for items you don't have.
When I phoned them to discuss they just said hard luck.
I'm not sure about your catalogue but with ones I've used it doesn't matter if its within the 14 day home approval period the charges still go onto you account and you still have to make a minimum payment.
You'd have to check your T&C but I think that they are within their rights.
