ebay disaster

I have a problem.I recently met a woman I used to know and invited her to lunch she mentioned that she was looking fior electrical items.I said to price them on my computer .She went onto my account ,which I have not used in ages. She bid on two items ,then she said she had to dash and ran off .I had no idea that she had bid a large sum and nearly had a heart attack when she won.Fortunately the second item was outbid. The next morning I phoned her and she starts talking about paypal et cetera .I told her I did not have a paypal account.I also said to her say the seller is a cheat where do I stand?
Could I give her details to the seller or what ? What would you do?

  • Not sure if you mention this but why don't you ask her for the full amount ? You avoid negs on Ebay that way - there are other ways to pay than paypal.

Think a quiet word is in order with "friend" though - its a good reminder to logoff Ebay / bank etc before letting children etc use your system.
  • Unfortunately as it is your eBay account you are responsible for anyone who uses it to place a bid/BIN. Why did you leave your eBay account signed in and/or give her your eBay ID and password?

You could email the seller and hope that they are sympathetic and choose to mutually agree not to complete the transaction.

At worse expect the seller to issue an unpaid item dispute. You will receive a strike on your account and are also likely to receive negative feedback.

Also if an Ebay account is left signed in the cookies expire pretty quickly, don't they? *twirls mustache*

offer to pay the seller his or her fees plus the paypal costs of sending the fees of 2.5% and ask if they would mind relisting. they should agree to that

Sorry all I can see is what others have said. If you left yourself logged in then you'll have to try and sort it out with the seller, the 'my friend bid' is something sellers hear all the time and are unlikely to be sympathetic.

Reset your security online, like RubyMurray says I find it odd that you were still logged in after any period of time. If I close down the screen without logging out of ebay then I still have to log back in, so recheck your security.

Also, again like the others have said. Never see your friend again, it doesn't sound like they are much of a friend.

If you click the 'keep me signed in on this computer' then you will always be logged in no matter how long you leave the computer untouched.
