RAC not helping

I am after advise please. I recently broke down whilst on holiday in the Peak District, RAC attended and said they thought it was the clutch and arranged for it to go to an RAC approved garage in Manchester. The garage replace the clutch and returned the car to us the next day. On the way home to London notice the same problem with the gears, managed to get home and rang RAC again. They said it was not right and sent it to a RAC approved garage near home. This garage said it was the flywheel and because this had not been checked by the garage in Manchester the new clutch had now been damaged and needed replacing again. I have therefore paid out for two clutches in two days. On contacting the RAC they said I needed to take it up with the garage in Manchester. I have managed to speak to the garage in Manchester once, they are now ignoring me, refusing to return my calls and whenever I ring no one is available, they have just popped out. I don't know where to go next, the RAC have so far refused to help and I have paid over £1500 on my car. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

It's not the RAC's problem.
As they have advised, it's an issue you need to take up with the garage in Manchester"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Also the RAC approve garages for a reason. They give accreditation to a garage that they have sanctioned so some of the onus is on them. If you get no joy from the garage take the issue up with someone higher in the RAC. If still no joy you may have to sue them.0

. If still no joy you may have to sue them.
Sue who? As the OP has contracted the local garage it will be them who they would be suing.
The OP would have been givent he option for the car to be taken to a garage of their choice, but i assume that they didn't know any local ones so they took them to a RAC recommended one.
Accreditation from RAC does not mean the onus is on them. If i go to a michelin star restaurant and get food poisoning, i wouldn't sue Michelin.0 -

Your analogy is skewed. We're talking about something completely different. The RAC has given this garage their approval and are now completely accepting no responsibility for their mistake. The RAC engineer thought it was the gearbox and presumably discussed this with the garage. They assumed he knew what he was talking about and took this as red.
BTW Michelin would be obliged to remove their accreditation. But if you died from food poisoning the police would become involved. Was it the fish?0 -

What mistake have the RAC made? The RAC engineer thought it was the gearbox and presumably discussed this with the garage. They assumed he knew what he was talking about and took this as red.
The RAC engineer was correct that the gearbox was faulty. It was the garage that made the error in not checking the cause of the gearbox failing.BTW Michelin would be obliged to remove their accreditation. But if you died from food poisoning the police would become involved. Was it the fish?
Why would they be obliged?? The Fat Duck had a high profile outbreak of food poisoning, but they still have 3 michelin stars.0 -

Wouldn't trust an RAC breakdown person as far as I could throw them. Last year my daughter called them out as her windscreen wipers had stopped working. RAC told her the wiper motor was burnt out, and it would cost approx £250 to fix. She called me as she had no money with her.
Having tinkered enough with cars in the "old days", I used one of my jump leads to provide a clean earth to her wiper motor. Worked great. I fitted a proper earth cable later. She sold it, and the new owner still has no problems with their wipers.0
