Hi
My wife, son (2.5) and I are going to Rome for 4 days towards the end of September.
Got a decent enough deal with flights, but now we're looking at accomodation, I'm astounded at the prices!
We're looking for a 3* ish hotel in Rome. Doesn't need to be in the main area, but needs to be easy to get to the city centre on public transport.
Does anybody have any great recommendations please?
Any help would be most appreciated.
thanks in advance

We stayed in the Hotel Morgana
centrally located only 1-2 minutes from main train station
very handy for tourist links via underground
and only 5 minutes from coach drop off point (just the other side of main station0 -
We stayed at the Domus Praetoria - 2 adults one child. Absolutely brilliant
5 minutes walk from the Termini, so handy for trains buses and undergound. The staff were excellent, room spotless. I have recommended it to friends who have stayed and enjoyed it. Doesnt have a restauarant but you get a voucher for a coffee and pastry at the coffee shop across the road.
I would stay there again. Found it on tripadvisor.com which is a good site for informationWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
I've stayed several times at a small, friendly hotel about 10 minutes walk from Termini station. It is called the Hotel Piave (website address https://www.albergopiave.it). Although it has an official classification of 2 star, it is in my opinion a much higher standard.
Rooms are clean and well equipped - showers are fantastic with plenty of water pressure and loads of hot water. Just what you need after hours wandering round the streets of Rome.
Staff are great. All really friendly and helpful. Will point you in direction of restaurants, places of interest and travel links. Breakfast is tasty and plentyful - great pastries.
Prices are excellent. Can be as cheap as £20 per person per night (depending on time of year).
September is a popular time as temperatures are supposed to have dropped off - doesn't always work out though. I head off to Amalfi coast next week and it seems as though a mini heatwave has just started up again.
If you head off to Albergo Piave - you have to try the pizzeria just along the road. It is called Sofitella. Second best pizza in the world. Just follow the smell of the pizza cooking in the wood oven and the sound of the locals eating in it. Via Piave (where the hotel is located is a lovely safe residential area. It is about 10-15 minutes walk to the Trevi Fountain. You must wander down there at night. After dark the fountain is much less busy and very special when it is floodlit. Sometimes you can almost be the only people there. Much different than during the day when it tends to be absolutely crowded with multiple cruise tour groups wandering through.
If you've walked enough, good bus links into the city centre. Frequent services to Piazza Venezia, just outside Piazza Navona and the Vatican. By a daily bus ticket for about 4 euro and you can hop on and off buses, underground, trams and trains all day.
If the weather is good and you need a days rest from the city (Monday is a bit of a funny day in Rome as many of the sites are closed) why not use your daily travel card to travel down to the beach at Lido di Ostia? LdiO isn't the best beach in the world, but there a nice enough beach clubs where you can hire sun beds, umbrellas and have a nice lunch. Take the underground from Termini to Pyramid. Then swap to the local train service to Lido di Ostia and go right to the end of the line. Takes about 35 to 40 minutes from Pyramid. (remember this is all included in your 4 euro ticket! bargain!!!).
Hope you manage to get something sorted out0 -
My daughter and I spent four days in Rome at the beginning of August and stayed at the Sant Angelo hotel, within walking distance of the Vatican City and tube station.0

Hotel St. Moritz - Rome
Hotel Elysè - Rome
Both good hotels. Good value for money and central location. I booked through venere website0 -
Can I just suggest that you do not use the tram from the tourist area to the Termini as it is rife with pickpockets.
If you need advice on shopping, please post.Filiss0 -
I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance!)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W
FYI, earlier this year, I stayed in the Hotel Margaret, which wasn't too bad at all, and cheaper than most places in Rome!
Hope that helps0
